“Roscoff onions from the local supermarket. I painted this in the studio under artificial lights (daylight balanced) after having moved everything around and finally putting this shelf on the wall (it's been resting on a cardboard box since 2011!!) It's now hung on the opposite wall so shadows will run from left to right which is better for a right handed painter. We'll see how it works out!”

As usual, Julian, you did a fabulous job on this still life. I love the peeling paint on the shelf!
You never want to rush into things in Provence. Five years to hang a shelf seems reasonable to me.

Beautiful painting! So many times I have looked at your shadows and thought how hard it would be to paint, being that I am right handed. I had to comment when I read yours.
So inspiring. Commenters reference other information such as the right hand comment above. Is there a place on your website where you talk about your painting/life?or your travels. I do not see where that is. Thanks.

Just picked up your postcard of the three onions and comments re right handed painters and shadows; will now have to rearrange the still life I have just this minute set up of five clementines!!
Great still life as ever.
The workshop at La Madelene was a great inspiration.
