“We work all day painting the model and at 5 o'clock we are released, so this is the view from just below the house between 5:30 and 7:00pm it's strangely relaxing to paint on one's own in the landscape after an intense day painting in the studio!”

Relaxing? Ya' think? Now you'll be able to relate to your workshoppers at the end of the day. I especially like this piece!
They say when painting landscapes you should paint figures to change your perspective, and vice versa. It gives a fresh view. I'm sure you're experiencing that same effect, this landscape is beautiful! I've watched demos in person from Hollis (I'm from CT), he's immensely talented! As are you!

That contrast btwn the figure and the landscape is interesting, let's examine it more and try to understand why one influences the other in such satisfying ways. The intense concentration on the figure helps see much more in the landscape than would have been possible otherwise?
Julian, what a beautiful painting after an already full days work.
