“This was painted in the studio in which we're painting the model during my lunch hour. As you can see the lighting is a little problematic with multiple light sources, both artificial and natural. I thought the blue shadow was interesting but the whole thing was a little rushed and it doesn't read quite how I meant it to, but everyday we start out on these little adventures... fail again, fail better”

I quite like the simplicity of these three clementines - they look SO real!!
Great work to be able to flip the switch from figure painting to still life. It must be mentally exhausting. I hope you will post some of your figure work - we are intrigued!
"...fail again fail better.." As an amateur painter it's heartening to hear a professional painter of your calibre be so honest. To keep on trying and risk failure, that's true success. Thank-you.
Oh my!! Julian this comment on your statement should go on the studio wall of every struggling artist -- old or new. Together you and Suzanne have created a keeper!
Really interesting to have the problems pointed out; would I otherwise have noticed? and that's how we learn, so thank you.
LOVE YOUR CLEMENTINES! ESPECIALLY AGAINST THE BLUE.
