“I'm definitely having problems painting around people, so I went back to the lagoon side of Guidecca where I managed to paint and not see a soul (at least not one not in a boat)”

Lovely and loose ... just the way I wish I could paint. I would imagine it's very hard capturing that sparkling light boucing off the water - you did an amazing job!
I've place a bid and the second I push confirm I'm over bid by a dollar. Does this mean there is a syndication that is controlling the bidding? Please advise.

Noooo, just someone has a higher bid already placed, each time you bid you'll be outbid if a higher bid exists until you match or surpass the previous bid
