Until I read your commentary, I was going to send you a !Bravo! for discovering an unusual Venice scene to paint. I still think you deserve a bravo; the Sargent is a painting I've never seen before. And what is more, your painting is quite beautiful and very different from his.
What a beutiful composition! A strong balance leading the eye from the foreground to the background. You have such a talent to capture your surroundings.
Holy cheese and crackers! You nailed that one fellah - right in the league with Sargent - enjoy your time
The warm lights between the pillars are captivating. And the protective indigo cover is so necessary to the painting harmony. By the way... where are the sightseers? A deserted Venice, is it conceivable?
Dear Julian, wonderful silvery reflections on the canal, glowing amber sun lit walls and a spellbinding perspective. The architectural details in the foreground, lamp post and bridge are iconic and recognized by most, yet intimate and warm. Heart achingly beautiful painting.Venice is yours!! . Anna H.
I really like the strong simplicity to the design of this one. The board seems divided neatly into quarters with the curved shape of the arches and the views through softening and adding variety to this underlying geometric structure. Thanks for the link to Sargent's watercolour of the same scene- that is stunning too!
