Your life and family sound so wonderful. My late husband and I used to camp along the Rio Grande River between Texas and Mexico. I miss those young days, but not sleeping on rocky ground in a little pup tent! I love that you were painting?with your feet?.er?ah?in the water! I was in Aix for 4 weeks last summer ('13)?and got a chance to paint Mt. St.Victoire while standing in the same spot as Cezzane painted it?.Of course, it's CEZZANE's mountain, not mine?but it was a good feeling, and most inspiring. One day I will take one of your workshops. Provence is a marvelous place?and your paintings are beautiful.

Extraordinary ? even for you, Julian. Subtle color, restrained values, striking composition and a beautiful sense of light and atmosphere. Makes me think of Sargent's "camping" paintings.

Unfortunate that the enlargement pop-up isn't working for this one; looks like there's some wonderful texture in the brush marks.

Your blog is rich, instructive and above all, shows a high open-mindedness about Art. So many "unknown" artists to discover. Thanks for that.

Painter’s notes

This is one of those rather funny examples of reality v. the painting... I had to again (sorry for the previous grammatical error/confusion) paint with my feet in the water, but being a bank holiday in August the the river was chock-a-block with kayaks and Ruth and Louis had to police the bank saying "my husband is trying to paint this scene, would you mind picnicking elsewhere"? I meanwhile, was hiding under a bankside tree.. pictures on facebook at some point...we are camping!
