Such a beguiling little picture, the handling of the leaves deserves a mention, and agreement with the other comments.

Mixed feelings...If I hide with my fingers the white highlights, the goblet,by its weak tonal value compared to the roses tone seems to belong to the atmosphere of another painting! Perhaps that's why the main white highlight have to be so big: it plays its part in order to solve the problem,and thus it contributes to save balance and cohesion of the whole painting.The crucial importance of a single dash of color...And to accentuate the positive when I pretend to criticize.

The first two roses of the year, not enough for a bouquet hence the still life set-up.
