“First full day in Bali. After a quick visit to the art shop Seni Warna and lunch, I set about painting the terraced rice paddies behind the house. The light is flat and the air heavy after the storm that greeted our arrival but everything is green and the textures of the foliage fascinating.”

Wow such luxuriant green is a feast for the eyes here in snowbound Ohio!
Very different greens for you from those in the south of France.
I'm left to wonder are those expanding ripples in the rice paddy deliberately painted or a happy circumstance of a gesso-textured panel?
I wondered how you got past the restrictions on oil taking oil paints on planes. Did you take a pochade box and refill it when you got there, or buy the whole kit from scratch?
Those tropical greens are really sharp after the soft French winter colours we've seen.

if we click on Vallotton,his painting "65"(of 91)has a similar composition and...the same slightly acid green!
