The taste of the madeleine and memory are forever linked thanks to Proust...this painting struck me as a meaningful subject for your first posting since your mother's death. May she rest in peace.
This Madeleine brought me to tears of sympathy and yet also happiness. Having heard the news from Ruth, I wondered how this loss would effect your voyage of painting persistence. For me, the beauty plonking into my e-mailbox each day, is a little hint that all IS probably well in MY imagined world.
Very sorry to learn of your loss Julian.
May your creatively be your salve. And
this is a lovely and deep image. Sincere
condolences. It is truly wonderful that you have this outlet.
Julian, so sorry to hear about your loss. My thoughts are with you at this time. Missed you and your beautiful paintings. Please take care of yourself!

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I echo the thoughts of others: your painting is a lovely rememberance and a joy to behold. I agree: your mother must be very proud.
I'm so sorry for your loss Julian.I lost both of my parents and know how difficult this is. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time! Take care.
Dear Julian,
So very sad to hear of your mother's death. It is so hard no matter our age, but even harder when it is more or less unexpected.
So many of the sentiments shared above are also in my thoughts, but most of all take care of each other.
Regards.
Julian: So sorry to hear of your loss. My sincere condolences. Very glad that you are back. I know that your artistic endeavors will help you through this difficult time. Parke
I am sure you feel very sad now. I can not imagine trying to paint while feeling such grief. I don't think I could paint for a while. You must be very strong inside. Thank you for sharing your paintings with us. You paintings inspire my own painting.
My sincere condolence on the passing of your mother.
Today's delicious painting is like a comfort food for the soul...It's a tangible reminder of the temporary and unfinished nature of one's life, and the importance of living life to its fullest each and every day.
Your wonderful paintings bring joy to us daily, and for that we are thankful.
Julian,
I send my deepest sympathy. I am afraid "time heals all" is not so. You will learn to love that bittersweet hole in your heart.
Fond regards, Kathy
My sympathies to you and your family. Losing a parent is life changing. It is a great sadness. Bless you for your special work and for sharing it so graciously. Your mother must have been very proud.
Dear Julian,
I'm so sorry to hear about your Mother. My deepest sympathies. Your paintings provide a refuge for those of us seeing them each day, I hope they can for you as well.
As a recent new comer to the painting-a-day movement, I've only discovered your site within the past month. I marvel at how, over the past five years, your art has evolved. This alone tells me just what a valuable exercise it is.
When there were no postings from you over the past couple of weeks I wondered what could be awry?
Very sorry to hear about the loss of your Mother, may painting be a place you go to to heal.
Oddly, when my Mother died I was in the midst of painting the very footbed of the gardener's bridge, from my time at Giverny. When I returned home, finishing the 'other side' helped me process the emotions and find peace.
Julian,
My heart goes out to you in the loss of your Mother. I hope you have so many wonderful memories that it will help lessen
the pain and the grief.
I've missed your emails and am glad you're back.
It's been said already, but the loss of a parent is significant and painful. One feels cast adrift, rudderless, without the anchor of a parent. I hope your painting will soothe you and allow you to adapt to your new world.
Many condolences. I lost my mother last year and can understand what you are feeling, but I think you may find she's still with you in a strange way. Your paintings are lovely, by the way.
Many condolences. I lost my mother last year and so I can understand what you are feeling, but I think you may find she's still with you in a strange way. Your paintings are lovely, by the way.
Julian and Ruth, I am so sorry you are going through this sad time but it is lovely that you have your family to gain comfort from and to share all the emotions this time brings which is all part of the 'rich tapestry of life'. My thoughts and prayer are with you both. I too am sure she must have been so proud of you (both). I've just looked up the recipe for Madeleine's and am off to attempt to make them! wish me luck!
Dear Julian:
Your paintings bring me so much pleasure every day, though I have not yet bid on any of them (for financial reasons).
I am moved to write to say how sorry I am to hear of the death of your mother. She raised a talented son with a great eye for the beauty of everyday things. Devote a bit of time thinking about her every day this year. That will help you to recover.
Thank you and best wishes,
Coco
Julian, My deepest sympathy to you and your family. We cannot do anything to ease your pain, except to let you know we are here if you need us. I am sure she must be very proud of you. She will always be watching over you. I am sure of this.

Julian, I am an admirer of your work. Just came to your site today to see if I had missed anything. Apparently so. I'm so sorry for the loss of your mom. I recently lost both my parents so my heart is with you. She lives on in the great work that you do. Thank you for that and thank your mom for you.
Mothers are special. I wish you and your family peace. What a special lady she must have been, to have a son as nice and as gifted as you. That is a true tribute to her.
Julian,
A very inspirational painting and such wonderful instincts to paint a madelaine at this time of your sorrow and memory. Please accept my condolences.
Susan
My deepest sympathy to you and your family over the loss of your mother, Julian.
Please do not worry about mailing my painting anytime soon. Just whenever.
I am so sorry for your loss. It is obvious from all the comments that we all feel close to you even though very few of us have met you. You have offered such a wonderful part of yourself to us through your work and, in turn, we want to reach back to you in your grief. Be well and know that many people are thinking of you.
O Madeleine
You are looking so light
So light
Delicate
The artist has painted your soul
Through your body clay
O Madeleine
So light
You are stepping aside
Ready to leave the ground
So light
So lovely
Nearly gauzy, pale-faced
Still with us,
Smiling
As if to say:
"I love you, my true friends."
Good bye beautiful Soul!
We shall never forget you
We love you too.
Quite simply.
a beautiful way to begin and end our tribute to julian and his Mother, alain. thank you. i feel the comments above were also a tribute to all our mothers who are gone from us. g. snyder
