These are simply sublime!!! We don't find REAL strawberries in the States any more. These remind me of the ones I ate in Brazil, as a child. How I loved to squish them with a fork in a bowl, and see the colors mix in with the cream! The reflections on these...ah the reflections...how they bring out the lushness of the fruit!
These look like the ones we had from the better-than-organic garden on 'grandpa' Derek's farm in Hopkinton, NH!! I'm salivating just thinking of them. Oh, and they smell sooooo good. There's nothing better than picking your own home-grown produce when you know what soil you planted into and what rubbish fertilizer and pesticides and herbicides you did NOT put on your plate!
Another plate of gorgeusness, Julian. Koszonom szepen.
I love the 'seeming' simplicity of this painting. The light, the colour, the luscious shape of the strawberries conspire to create a sensual and, dare I say, sexy image. I imagine champagne, chocolate and candlelight as an accompaniment to these strawberries.
I've been following your postings for several years now, and it just occurred to me that, while your work has always been wonderful, you are reaching new levels lately. I am left staring open-mouthed at my computer screen whenever I open a new day's work.
nigel, you have reminded me to climb up to the studio, save these poor blighters who are probably rotting and have them for breakfast! congratulations on saving six strawberry lives!
I agree with Barbara M.
I like too the little curving effect of the table's edge and the layout overall, suggesting the weight of the fruits. The green stalks giving a feeling of an aerial motion, a tempo. Impressive feelings of fullness. Julian, your talent is sparkling like these white gleams on the strawberries.
