Disarming, puzzling, Julian. This painting does not appear like anything else! For me, two high level masterpieces, Julian: " La grange Allemand" intense like paintings of Edvard Munch and this one " Vaporetto" as subtle as those of Georges Braque. Lyrical abstraction. Uncompromising paintings. Each brushstroke is like a breath of life. Unforgettable.
Hearty abstration roiling over with boatiness and wet air, and after three days of Venitian water, I hear in the swirling wind the voice of poor Shylock crying, "Jessica!" (Actually, I think its Pacino I hear, but close enough.) Tallyho, oh man with brushes!
Venice in winter - you've caught it exactly -down to the precise water colour -nowehere else in the world quite like it. Von.
