Your still lifes are wonderful but you paint roses as if they are made of limp washed rags. They are actually marvels of crisply defined structure.

I think these roses are wonderful - blowsy, rain washed, with a nod to Impressionism, redolent of passing, brief splendour.

Painter’s notes

We had a morning of overcast weather on last week's workshop and so I did this demonstration painting of the vigorously flowering climbing rose growing against the side of the Grange Neuve
