I have been enjoying your daily paintings for over a year, and I appreciate your style. Of all the portraits at the NPG, yours stands out as being the best. Congratulations!

Bonnie

Julian you have really mastered water whchis always so difficult to paint. Bravo. Bonnie

Lee Belcher

A lively, sunny painting.

(P.S. I loved your self-portrait! So many uf the other entries were so static, and yours is full of life, like so many of your daily sketches.)

Susan

Vibrant, strong, colorfully inviting! Another Bravo! And your self-portrait directly engages the viewer. Agree with L B.

Painter’s notes

I have just returned from the press view and private view of the 2017 BP Portrait Award at the National Portrait gallery in London. You can see all fifty-two portraits on the NPG site here, the landing page of the link is my portrait, just scroll down to see them all... http://www.npg.org.uk/whatson/bp-portrait-award-2017 This to-ing and fro-ing between London and home (BP Award and Ruth playing at Garsington for the season) means plenty of time spent in and around Marseille airport, luckily it's pretty nice around there and I have my kit in the car!
