This is simply gorgeous!! I have always loved seascapes and yours is a beauty - so calming and soothing. I can almost hear the gentle waves!

Many years ago when I was a teen, I visited an art gallery right on the coast in Maine and, naturally, it was filled with marine paintings and seascapes. I still have a card of one of the artists represented there and we're talking almost sixty years ago! The next piece I want to try is a seascape.

Ive lived by the ocean most of my life. Your scene evokes all the changing sameness that makes the sea always mystery but always available. Bravo

Your waves are lovely--and it's no joke to try and get the immediacy without oveerworking.

Such a peaceful generic seascape. Reminds of the beach at St. Simons Island, Georgia USA near where I grew up in Brunswick, GA.

Painter’s notes

Even calmer than painting boats! A grey, fairly flat light and a turning tide meant that things stayed pretty much the same for the hour or so I painted (while Louis played on the dunes). Painting waves is an exercise in short term memory; watch them, paint what you saw then compare, repeat till it looks right!
