We have never spoken of one of the technical features of Julian art we can see in many of his works: in the bottom left corner, there is a powdery trail made by the brush; a dry layer of paste that seems to "go under" a transparent layer or glazing of raw sienna and grey hues across the painting. This powdery trail adds some motion (and poetry) to a hieratic still life and also an unfinished feeling as suspension points. It points out too that life is fragile because here all the objects stand on a fragile basis: the table is as thin as cigarette paper.

I think the "silver" man is pretty good. I always enjoy your handling of the reflections and the sparkle in silver.
Love this! It would be great framed in a dining room!
Love the darkness! Those reflections take my breath away
