I am amazed at how you achieved the dimensional appearance of the lemons! I don't even know if that is the correct "artistic" term or not, but they are incredible, yet look so simply done.
Dear Julian, this painting looks monumental, maybe the sculptural forms of the lemons and enamel coffee pot creates the illusion. I don't know if you were at all tempted to include just a sliver of turquoise on the right (the tin box). If so, you were right not to,it's cast shadow adds depth and enough interest on the right.
I feel an introspective Morandiesque mood here, even though I believe he never painted lemons. And his palette was rather more anaemic! Anna.
