I am amazed at how you achieved the dimensional appearance of the lemons! I don't even know if that is the correct "artistic" term or not, but they are incredible, yet look so simply done.
What a gift you have, Julian!
Dear Julian, this painting looks monumental, maybe the sculptural forms of the lemons and enamel coffee pot creates the illusion. I don't know if you were at all tempted to include just a sliver of turquoise on the right (the tin box). If so, you were right not to,it's cast shadow adds depth and enough interest on the right.
I feel an introspective Morandiesque mood here, even though I believe he never painted lemons. And his palette was rather more anaemic! Anna.
