I look at all your garlic paintings and where it seems that a garlic head can only be a garlic head, your paintings of this simple subject is always different and beautiful.
Puts me in mind of a Maurice Sendak illustration - almost a "lost in the woods/wild ones" feel to it. I'm not expressing it very well, but this does strike me as much darker (and I don't just mean color) than anything I've seen from you before. Wonderful palette - and startling juxtaposition between garlic and a wild kind of darkness.
I like the pearl-like quality of the garlic, and the light edge of the table on the left is so important to the overall painting - just the right touch to balance everything.
The colors and the shapes are just beautiful. Just goes to prove that it really doesn't matter what the subject is. Instead, it's all about how the artist composes depicts the subject. Fantastic harmony!
