“A visit to 'Les Marchés de Provence' in Carpentras surprised us—the shop was full of locally grown Strawberries and Asparagus; despite appearances, to quote Jimmy Durante —"spring has sprung".”

ELEGANT !!!
Just beautiful!
The deep shadows lovingly accentuate the freshness
of the produce and the all together effect is
sumptuous! Wish I had some asperges tonight for my
dinner!!
That's a really lovely painting Julian - full of subtle painterly marks and feeling.
Suddenly I am hungry. Great stuff, Julian!
Oh, Julian---you do such beautiful work...I love how you bring such everyday things to life!
Julian,
This is just beautiful! Love the simplicity
and the composition. Elegant!
Marilyn
this is a beautiful one julian... you captured the asparagus in all its tender and delicate glory.
Recently I was given 'homework' to create still life images via photography. I found it very difficult to arrange what I first chose for the still life. I am getting better at it. This is partly because I found that, if I chose items I liked to photograph, the process was easier. Even though I like them, fruit and vegetables, I discovered, are very hard to arrange.
The composition in today's painting is so artfully done that each of the three elements is of interest as a separate component. Yet each item comments on the other; for example, the delicate green of the asparagus contrasts with vivid yellow of the lemon and the bright blue stripe of the cloth. To be sure this painting is "ELEGANT," as Carol proclaimed.
