I was thinking to myself, how is he going to top
the butter painting from yesterday. By george, you've done it! What a wonderful series. I am glad you are stuck in dairy land!

I like to work with colors that are quite similar. My best work is in the greys and blacks with slight nuancaes in the reds and roses. You are superior in tone and drawing. Susannah

This painting with the warm colours of the bread and cheese recalls similar moments in France when I was ready for some bread and cheese. It is impossible to resist the cheese and baguettes there, and you have created the moment of anticipation just before the knife cuts into the cheese.

Painter’s notes

I seem to be going through a minor 'dairy period'. It's quite testing painting things where all the colors are quite similar, one has to concentrate on tone and drawing to make it work.
