Instead of light, the shadow adds deeper perspective and enhances the - 3D effect.

Julian, the brush strokes seem different from your other paintings. They seem larger and more sketch -like. I really like this painting and I especially love the shadows. Just wondering if you used a flatter and larger brush? Really lovely and dare I say, 'fresh'?

I admire your skill of leaving well enough alone. This background (and so many others we've seen) has just this prefect well-enough-alone feeling that you never seem to violate. I'm tipping my hat.
