A nice way to illustrate the concept of epicurism. perfectly done, as usual.
The background looks so alive, so animated. It seems there are lots of shadows of faces of men, poor wretches, who are waiting, expecting to eat... O just a smidgeon of red wine and most of all, a little bit of cheese, looking like some radiant gold bar, firm, chalky when you try to cut it, pressed, salted, musky... The Have-nots, reverently, are waiting, like those poor children being amazed by a pre-Christmas window of stuffed toys, in the winter wind. O Spirit of Louis Le Nain you are so close to me tonight! Thanks to you Julian.
OOHH, yum yum yum, I'm slavering, and I've just had dinner! x Mhairi
That is one fine, gorgeous, beautiful little painting!!!!!
I am ga ga over this... I can taste that cheese and know it well, and I can feel it crumbling off in my hand as I wash it down with a nice heavy red.... the master of the textures. You totally nailed all of them in this fine little gem.
