One is guided by the teeny gleams through the whole painting. When I see these two spread out leaves I can't help myself thinking to a wounded little bird laid on its belly. And this light strip of the pot evoking a monochromatic picture in which a white sun is reflecting into a raging black ocean...Finally, background and pot's belly are merging, making your painting, Julian, like a Mahler's symphony, dreamlike, deep and affecting.
Love the sparkle in the cherries and the bowl.
The siftness of the edge of the bowl meshing with the mystery of the darkness beyond.I would have prefered this piece without the leaves Julian and maybe just a few scattered cherries with some pits. Some of those lusciuos
suckers must have been eaten during this effort.

Hi Julian I like the leaves with the single cherry peeking out. It gives balance, texture and contrast to the composition. What is admirable about this painting and the 3 pink peonies is that the artist's imagination comes to the forefront subtely but very clearly. I think the two paintings would be terrific together. Congratulations on these still life images; you seem to have taken a huge step froward in your work.
As usual another fabulous painting
You belong to the same league as
Fantin Latour, Chardin or any other great still life painter.
Thank you for posting these new paintings
