Julian, I must say I'm a sucker for your still life - much more so than your landscapes, but that's just my personal preference. The strawberries look so alive, amazing! It's hard to explain to my 4-year-old why we don't buy them in the store ('coz they don't grow in our New Hampshire garden this time of the year just yet etc etc).
Your play with dark/light is fascinating. How the saucer just melts into the background... every time I look at the painting, I discover some new detail - much to my delight :-)
The strawberry in the saucer seems to be beribboned like a gift-wrapping.
An undisguised symbol summing-up all your paintings you share with us, Julian..
What intrigues me is the choice of the colour for the background. It was carefully considered, I think and works really well with the red strawberries and apricot foreground Of course, we all would like to taste those luscious strawberries with some champagne, of course.
Julian: I am in treatment for cancer and have not been able to paint.I spend 5 days in the hospital and I look forward to seeing your work when I get home. It keeps me inspired amd motivated.
