I have to say that I am looking forward to your paintings everyday. This one is gorgeous and is no exception. Regis
Julian: Aother beautiful day and another beautiful piece. Having instant subjects as lovely as this to paint is a joy in itself. I would love to know what kind of surface you work on and how stable it is. Is it available where art materials are sold? You say it is painted on a gessoed card, and do you prepare the painting surface?
Hi Bernie, I use thick card (4mm) which I cut up into various sizes with a box cutter, I prepare it by smoothing the sides and slightly rounding edges with fine glasspaper and I then coat the sides and the face and an inch border around the back, with 2-3 coats of acrylic gesso. I've been using this for about 10 years and is great for small scale pieces: light, lovely surface and enables me to prepare all sorts of formats.
