I have to say that I am looking forward to your paintings everyday. This one is gorgeous and is no exception.

Aother beautiful day and another beautiful piece. Having instant subjects as lovely as
this to paint is a joy in itself. I would love to know what kind of surface you work on and how stable it is. Is it available where art materials are sold? You say it is painted on a gessoed card, and do you prepare the painting surface?

Hi Bernie, I use thick card (4mm) which I cut up into various sizes with a box cutter, I prepare it by smoothing the sides and slightly rounding edges with fine glasspaper and I then coat the sides and the face and an inch border around the back, with 2-3 coats of acrylic gesso. I've been using this for about 10 years and is great for small scale pieces: light, lovely surface and enables me to prepare all sorts of formats.
