As I picked out the perfect cherry, the Platonic cherry, this evening, after dinner, to savour, I said, studying the bowl of cherries that Ernesto had just washed: "Now Julian would have chosen a bigger triangle of white paint here, and a smaller one there. It's amazing how he uses his little white bits of paint to create "shiftinglight," to create reflecting light, to make visual what I am about to devour!" Merci, Julian, for making my enjoyment aesthetic in so many more ways than I used to do: visual, gustatory, and, somehow, perfect.
look at the Van Eyck's painting "the married couple Arnolfini" for instance and enlarge on the mirror in the background of the painting and then compare with the reflecting light and created space of the two cherries: that's an example showing the link between two great artists through the centuries but of course in different styles.
