I love the layering of reds. You handle oil almost as if it was water color. The poppies have a transparency about them. I can not even imagine the thrill of looking out over this beautiful field. Thanks for bring it to us!
We have a wonderful picture of our daughter, Michele, sitting in a field of poppies just below Sancerre. Since then, the field has been transformed into vineyards, and although I adore Sancerre wine, this gorgeous painting makes me remember our lovely daughter, as a little girl, in the midst of the poppies! What a spectacular memory! I could cry! Merci, Julian, d'etre le Proust dans nos souvenirs!I love the way you have those large poppies in front, and then have recede into the distance! Amazing!
these last two paintings are brilliant. I am in the throws of moving house with a very slow internet connection but making the effort to view your work really is worthwhile...it takes ages to appear, I make a cup of coffee and then sit back and enjoy. Yesterday's painting really made me sit back and just wallow in France, springtime and the clean air that you captured. Fab...worth all the years of hard work to come up with that!
Ah, Julian. I'm just sitting here staring at this. This makes my day.
This scene of poppies is gorgeous. (I have lately become fascinated with them.) Your work is always amazing, and I really look forward to opening your blog each day. I felt quite deprived when you were away, and I'm so glad you are posting again. Dona
Hello Julian As my favourite colour is red, I am delighted by this splendid painting that equals in its painterly deployment of colour the one you did yesterday. Thank you. B.
It was wonderful to see this beautiful painting arrive in our in-box on ANZAC day here in Australia. We wear red poppies in our lapels on this day in memory of so many of our young service men and women.
