Still life Workshops

Autumn 2026

A Week of Painting, Food & Friendship

These are small, immersive weeks focused on helping each painter move their work forward — with daily demonstrations, plenty of individual guidance, a supportive group, and (very importantly) excellent coffee.

DATES

September 20-26

November 8-14

Workshops run Monday to Friday. Arrival is Sunday afternoon/evening, departure Saturday morning.

WHAT’S INCLUDED

The fee for the five-day workshop is €1800 (approx. $2050 / £1550)

This includes:

• Transfers to and from Avignon TGV

• Daily transport between the village and the studio

• All equipment and materials

• Generous, delicious lunches prepared by me

Self-catering accommodation is available in the village at approximately €400 per person for six nights.

The group is limited to six painters, which allows for lots of individual attention. Non-painting partners are very welcome to stay in the same accommodation and enjoy the area during the day.

More Than a Workshop

A Creative Week to Remember

"I just wanted to write to thank you both so much for such a wonderful week spent with you in your lovely haven in Bedoin. It’s been a delight getting to know you both.
Julian, I wasn’t sure what to expect and initially felt totally out of my depth amongst the others and especially being next to Remi! However you put me totally at ease and I have learnt a huge amount from you. We all said how much we benefitted from watching your demos each day. Now I must practice my scales!
Ruth, thank you for all your organisation and for locating such lovely accommodation for us all at woefully short notice. Being collected from the station was a much appreciated bonus.
All of us were completely wowed by your cooking and lunches. None of needed dinner at night although we somehow managed to find a small corner every evening! Your restaurant got top marks out of all the places we ate - each meal a totally delicious event, for me the goats cheese, wine salt and honey was a real taste sensation.
Running these courses is such hard work and for you both to constantly provide us all not only with brilliant daily painting tuition but gourmet lunches was just such a treat. We were all made to feel so very welcome to your world and it was a glorious break from reality.
Thank you both so very much and I hope i may have the pleasure of seeing you again in the future."

"Iam  practicing hard and trying to make best use of Julian’s very valuable advice provided during our fantastic workshop... preparing new paintings for several upcoming exhibitions...Thanks again for this wonderful week together"

Remi, Spring 2025

"fascinating that we all lived a week of our lives together in a beautiful bubble of Provence, painting and eating fabulous food - and now have spun off into our ‘real’ lives. I am walking my dogs at the moment in green fields, the sun is shining and I hope to get into my studio later"

Nicola, March 2025

"Your guidance on painting the full scale of light to dark was more helpful than my decades long training... I am so excited to continue practising & creating again!"

Yini, Spring 2024

"My time in provence was like the sweetest dream... can't remember waking with a smile on my face so many days in a row-ever!"

Stella, Spring 2023

My experience in Bédoin and Julian’s class was so much more than I even dreamed it would be! I have waited for years to attend one of Julian’s classes and I’m so glad I started with the still life class. All being in the studio together provided great demonstrations and instructions by Julian and a delightful community to share ideas and encouragement with"

Cindy, Spring 2023

"I had a fantastic time at Julian's still life workshop. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet such a great artist, and to see the master at work. The accommodations and care with which Julian and Ruth coordinated the week were superb. The hotel was perfect, food top notch, and each student was provided with premium artist supplies and a great work station. Highly recommended!"

Ian, Spring 2023

"Thank you both so much for looking after us all so well last week and welcoming us into your home. It was, as you so rightly said, an absolute joy!  It really exceeded all expectations.
It was amazing to watch Julian paint and to see how he goes about creating his paintings from start to finish. I have learnt a lot from that alone.  Doing quick studies was a really valuable exercise for me to help me speed up. I was also hugely grateful for all his feedback"

Alex, Spring 2023
