I used to live in Barbentane, south of Avignon, surrounded by apricot trees. Yes,the loaded tractors ploughing along the roads... The local greengrocer sold the apricots in big trays, very reasonably. The first year there I ate so many I could hear my grandmother's voice in my head saying, "You'll get collywobbles..."

Painter’s notes

And so the apricots arrive - if we travel over the other side of the mountain—all of 3 miles—we enter le pays de l'abricot , indeed there used to be a big sign announcing the fact. I have many times been stuck behind a tractor with a big trailer full of these orange marvels when I've been foolish enough to take the road north
