What a wonderful thing it is to have yourglorious paintings to comfort/ distract us in these troubled times!
I've been so enjoying your most recent paintings. This one has a striking surprise, in that - in the wind here (further south) - the undersides of olive leaves still have a very pale green tinge to them - just like those close to your cypresses. But most these are an 'ash-ash' colour rather than 'green-ash'. Thing is, I've learned to trust what you see and to believe it. So now comes the real mystery in this painting. Here, in S. Italy many English-inherited houses are called 'Two Trees'. They're always cypress - and I've never seen any that aren't placed right at the entrance gateway to the drive of a house. I wonder what you'd find if you did a little excavation around the strange couple now surrounded by ash-ash olives...! xx
