Wow! You knocked this out of the ball park! This was not an easy subject and you did a fabulous job in capturing the texture of these mushrooms with a limited palette. Congrats!
Oh. My. God!
When this first appeared on my screen, I couldn't believe my eyes. How you pulled this off, I'll never know .... a few mushrooms, a very limited palette, the beautiful shadows, the tiny pieces of the mushroom caps ... so, so difficult yet you've really scored with this!
I've often laughed at the expression .. "I'm in awe .." and yet, this is how I feel looking at this exquisite painting. I can't stop looking at it, Julian!
What's interesting is that most of your landscapes lately have been very loose but this is tighter (if I can use that word) but not overly tight - how the heck do you manage to do both? I love the blues on the shelf/table and in the mushrooms. This has to be one of my all-time favorites!
Stunning. I actually felt my heart quicken when seeing these incredible monochrome mushrooms. The textures and colours, especially around the gill edges are so well rendered.
Really nice job considering the lack of color. I'm a huge fan of your work, and always love seeing how you meet each new still life (or landscape) challenge.
Hi Julian this is beautiful in it's simplicity. Who would believe mushrooms could become such a complex inspiring work of art. I love all the comments , they must be very gratifying and well they should for this is masterful!
Thanks Craig
