Great perspective and lovely "capture" of the light. I'm pulled into the painting with the textures and brushstrokes and feel like I'm slowly enjoying the coffee and pulling the croissant apart.
A good cup of coffee, a great hunk of bread, a hearty wine. I'd say you are doing alright. Wonderful homey picture.
I really feel you've hit some new heights recently Julian. Same beautiful compositions and well chosen subjects but there's just something about your latest paintings that really do sing.
For me, the star of this and Wednesday's painting is the knife and, in particular the knife handle. The way you have captured the reflection of light on its surface just makes me want to pick it up. There is a real warmth and depth to it. The contrast between the heavy dullness of the tablecloth and the polished surfaces of the knife is wonderful.
Well all I can say is lucky you!!! Ha
Gorgeous! The knife makes it.
What a delicate croissant you have painted. I love the shadows. Beautiful. You've done it again!!
