Julian, this cheerful painting is appealing to our unconscious... The complementary colours are singing all together. And as for paraphrasing Magritte, I would say: "what you see is not a...courgette!"
At a Magritte exhibit in Paris a couple of years ago, they were selling t-shirts that said: "Ceci n'est pas une pomme," with the depiction of a huge "pomme" right over one's rather buxomy chest (mine!) Just couldn't not buy that one, although I'm not one to wear t-shirts....Sorry about that, but I couldn't resist adding that to Alain's delightful comment. Wish it were a courgette, but then we might not have the gorgeous painting, now, would we?
Hmmm.... Magritte apart, this is a stunning piece of work again, Julian... a brilliant study of a courgette with flower! Might this be available as a print? A shame that only one lucky person should end up with this!Mind you that could be said for all your paintings ~:o)
Marvelous shadow along the courgette seeming to be a figurehead! The face ,in the middle, pointing towards the left, with a vertiginous high headgear and a very curvy stylish chest beneath. Mysterious art giving to the viewer so many riddles to uncover...Julian, you are a magician.
