Julian, I really understand about the refrigerated studio, I have had a bunch of grapes in mine now for 6 weeks just finished the painting. Julian the apples are the best, so real, Fantastic!!!
Ah .... the master of shadows has been at it again, I see! ?? What a super job you did, Julian. Lots of intrigue in this piece. I sure wish I could paint shadows (and everything else!!) as well as you. Happy New Year to you and your family and thank you for sharing your artistic gifts with us.
Hackneyed phrases. These apples gaze at me, unblinking... I look at them, imperturbable too. Face to face. And little by little, I feel I am turning into Buddha... And I think of that magnificent idea we are alive, that we belong by miracle to that world, both cruel and gentle, both ugly and beautiful. These apples do not know really that they are beautiful, they even do not know they are edible, they do not know too that the world into which they appeared, is cruel and gentle, ugly and beautiful. They are and we(thanks to the artists and thinkers) give them their presence, thanks to our miraculous gift: Consciousness.
Your apples look warm and beautiful, no matter what the temperature is in your studio.
fab as always. Try and catch up with tonight's tv prog that was on BBC 4, 8.30. Apples Pears and Paint. How to make a still life painting. Thought I might see one of yours! Happy New Year to you x 3! x
Hi Julian, Two questions: How are the apples ugly? You mentioned it, yet they appear unmarred. Masterful light manipulation - how do you accomplish this?
