I like the cobweb of the electric wires sharing the sky in geometric spaces, wonderful ballet of lines, linking together both sides of the road: the shadowed and the sunny ones. And what to say about this little vertical piece of white wall, building a perfect right angle with the horizontal light on the road! Yes, a ballet of warm colours and geometry! An unending feast for the viewer!
Ah! Just seeing the words “Beaumes-de-Venise” brings water to my mouth. The painting of the little decanter with “Beaumes-de-Venise” in it, that is so beautifully framed, in the living room (Oct. 2007), MADE me make a cake with the gorgeous muscat I HAD to buy. You’re a sly one, Julian! I’m not wild about sweet wines, but that “Beaumes-de-Venise”, in a cake, and served along with the dessert in small liqueur glasses…. Ah!!!!!!!!!!
at first i felt how odd to see the elecric wires in the quaint town and why did julian leave them out but then!! i realized how very much they added to the painting as alain noted also. fascinating juxta positio of colors. as always thank you. gfs
Love the painting, love the wires, love the light, the colors, the composition, the atmosphere, and the Beaumes-de-Venise-ness of it. I feel like I am on that road, in that light, by those very old buildings, breathing that air. And the color of the sky, and the brightness of the wall in light, and the length of the shadow—those things express this season to me clearly. Bravo!
Aside from agreeing with the comments of others, I love the mystery evoked by this painting: Who lives in the houses? Where does the street go? I can imagine what I like as I have never been there.
