Given the beauty of the countryside as seen in your paintings, I'm surprised that the riders kept going. It just shows how focused and tenacious human beigns can be. However, Julian, I think that you know that.
The light and luminosity in this painting are superb !!! The house vibrates with afternoon sun light and is rich and strong. The field of lavendar is lovely in juxtaposition !!!! It is a joyous and wonderful paining Julian. Bravo and thank you for the memories of the French countryside !!! One day, I will buy one !!!
Julian, you are an inspiration. This house is just lovely and I soooo wish I was there! Suzanne
Yes I watch the tour.. as I do every year, being french living in US. Glad to see that lance Armstrong was third on the podium in Paris...
Julian, This is beautiful. Jane
What a wonderful lesson of painting! Loosen brushstrokes in the forefront(field grass white flowers) and rigorous, meticulous cubist-like shapes of the houses. The majestic balance of the latter and the discreet slope of the upper line of the laveAnder field. At last the subtle correspondence between both the horizontal stripe of sky (the only surface with no apparent tracks of brushstrokes)and those of the lavender field. Worthy of the young Bonnard and... Nicolas Poussin!
Watching the Tour on high-definition television was extraordinary ? crystal clear mountain tops, perfect roofscapes, and fields in which it seemed you could count every blade of grass. But as digitized video sharpens images everywhere, it's a relief to turn to paintings like this, where the landscape is a tumult of color and light that reminds us there is far greater richness in the spectrum of the human eye.
