Spectacular, as in "un vrai spectacle": this painting, with so many elements on the bias, sloping, slanting,on oblique angles, with upright evergreens to "stabilize," to ground, to show and give durability and steadfastenss to the whole, reveals the fragility, yet perpetual aspects of nature, of our lives. The grapevines will metamorphose into wine, eventually, the straight evergreens will continue to stand their ground. Welcome back, Julian, and I hope the hospital visits were were not dire. Since you mention "an opera," I presuppose that Ruth is playing away.
I love the contrast between the straight slope of the vineyard and the curves of the mountains and hills in the distance. And how delightful these little ochre and pink gems hidden in the shadows leading us to the houses' roof, sky, the top of the tree and clouds.
So then my eyes lose themselves into the lovely dale to take a refreshing rest...Bless the Lord, Julian is back.
