Looking at this the subtleness slowly becomes apparent..the sweeping movements mmm.... a good picture makes people silent and the need for talk becomes not so great!

Thanks Colin and Stephen. BTW you've turned out some crackers in the last week; I love that RR Bridge and the Nocturne.

Thanks Katherine approaching a thousand paintings!

Interesting comments of late, about what a painting is. i agree with many of the comments; that a painting is what the artist sees in that moment, be it pink or green or mauve or gold in a sky, plus the courage to put that onto a canvas knowing it will be different the next moment, or day or season. Musicians could never be called up for using the 'wrong' colour, nor a writer for saying a sky is a tangerine, so why should a painter?

Just back from the dome cafe where Modigliani, Bonnard, Matisse et al ate...and i say here's to green skies! Lovely matisse quote, hillbilly.

I love that almost half this canvas is a loosely painted shadow and yet (maybe because of it) the path lures me towards such an intimate place in my imagination. Of course i am biased!

Thirty-six paintings concieved from the same outlook = 36 different skies: some of your recent correspondents may care to see James Gurney's Feb 17 post at www.gurneyjourney.blogspot.com - serendipitous. Heartiest congrats on your site's third birthday Julian. Every visit has been an absolute joy!
